Artist: REM
Song: Orange Crush
Album: Green
R.E.M has been around forever, it seems. I’ve only known about them for a tiny fraction of their long existence. They make good music. According to Wikipedia, they formed in 1980. I could have sworn they were a 90s band. Maybe it’s the type of music they play. Their genre of alternative music really became popular in the 90s, so they were trendsetters in a way. This shows since their most successful albums were released in the 90s during that sweet spot when alternative music was slightly well known, but not over-exposed. They had a lot of cult success early on, which soon translated into actual success.
Some of their more famous songs which get quite a bit of radio play include ‘Orange Crush’, ‘Losing my religion’, ‘The one I love’ and ‘Everybody hurts’. Their songs and albums tend to be quite introspective with deep lyrics and a lot of interconnected themes that weave their way through the music. With a band that has made so many albums, it’s impossible that the level of quality would remain at the same level. It’s no surprise then that their later albums just don’t hit the heights of the earlier ones.
They have been inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame.
